- Passwords are not readily protected
- Because mutliple connections are used additional firewall protection is needed
- users are able to abuse the protocol and send data the a third computer.
- There is a time delay in transferring files
- If a file is interupted there is no way to know if the receiver has the whole file.
- There is no way for the FTP to set a time date stamp to tell people time last modified etc.
One major risk in using FTP is that there is no particularily safe way of transfering files because the data is not transfered in an encrypted fashion which means anyone on the same network can view your username, password, and FTP commands.
However i'm not going to be a negitive nancy so lets look for positive pete for some advantages of using FTP.
- FtP servers can be set up anywhere
- You are able to manipulae files no matter what operating system you are using
All of this information was found using Wikipedia
