summary of the last semester- the memories

How does one summarise laughter friendships learning and a really fabulous time? Well seriously this term i have learnt so much about, flickr, delicious, blogger, FTP, technorati and the dreaded RSS. I have spent hours not only learning about these topics but forgot how they worked and spent even more hours relearning what i had learnt already! But my most important lesson that i've learnt is that if you don't know something you don't need to go running for help but you can go on google or the help function in the program you are using to find all of your answers.
My compotence with computers is growing and my confusion with the internet has subsided, although at times i feel over welmed when things just don't work for me. I have learnt how to create a blog and tamper with its background and colours etc, i've learnt basic html, about RSS and its uses, how to upload a web page to the internet, how to put counters onto web pages, and finally i have learnt how to create an iweb webpage SAVE IT AFTER ABOUT 4 TRIES and upload onto the internet.
I feel now a little wiser and a little more experienced because now i am so much more patient, and willing to step out of programs i know and utilize tools i have never used before. I have also come to a realization that i am really glad i completed this subject because it will help me in many ways in the future, whether i am creating a web site to display my work, a blog to discuss my thoughts or even a flickr or myspace page to organize photos and events. As a potential future producer this is something i will need to use and i want to learn more so that i can continue and have knowledge of the latest technology.
One last thing i have also learnt that unfortunately its not the programs fault when things go wrong because the program is just as smart as the user, although in saying this i must admit there are some programs and functions i really didn't like such as technorati and the use of knowing how popular your blog is in the grand scheme of the web. I also don't believe Really simple syndication RSS is not really that simple!!!! In conclusion i have learnt many things this semester that i will take into the future and hopefully use to better my career and some things i like knowing i don't want to know.
Your sincerely

WINTER WHAT A BUMMER

My seriously bewitching readers,
I am in a dilly of a pickle and i need your help to work it out. Firstly winter is approching and it is so depressing for many reasons
1) no day light savings
2) its cold
3) it rains more
4) my heating is broken
5) I'm stuck in Wagga
6) big brother is constantly on tv
Although winter does have some advantages i must admit such as....
1) TV is better (occasionally ie house, flight of the concords ect)
2) i watch more movies
3) My hatred for big brother is a great pick up line! (long story)
However I really don't know how to feel, but i miss summer and as today is the first day for winter i decided it is time to buy a diary (hey i'm only 6 months late and i got it cheap reduced from $70!) so my only glimmer of hope is that my winter will be organised. Can't wait to start a bon fire.
Yours faithfully, your slightly singed friend,
Brie xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Oh No a Coffee Hit

My gorgeously attractive cyber readers,
I have to admit at this moment i am feeling quite conflicted as my first post was about how i never drink coffee and i never understood how people could live off the stuff! But now i am ashamed to tell you what a semester of uni has done to me. I am honestly in an addicted stage, where as soon as i start thinking about having to go to work or do work for uni i am reaching for the coffee jar. Now i am unsure weather my future job of hopefully being a production manager or producer which will be highly stressful and demanding will require my body to live on a hit of caffeen several times a day. I am hopelessly concerned and am not looking forward to this but then i just remember how much coke i drink a day so i must ask readers... Is it better to drink coffee or coke?
My tired body is desperate for some coffee so i'll talk to you in a cheerier mood

RSS

Teachers, mothers, secret lovers....

Today i'm going to tell you about counters and RSS because i felt you needed to know...

A web counter or hit counter is a computer program that shows the number of visitors or hits a particular web site has received. People use web counters to see how much traffic is going through their web page or to be able to monitour statistics on their web page. They can also use a web counter to show to other people how popular their web page is. Some other web anayilses tools include hit counter, visits, unique visitors, page views, referrers, search keywords, visitor information, click paths, conversions, tracking registered users, and many other more advanced statistics.

RSS stands for Really simple Syndication and is a "family for web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts", This basically means RSS is a web feed used to publish updated content on popular sites and are easily viewed because they are on sites that do not have formatting. Rss allows us to subscribe to other sites using specific tools. I think it is a really good idea because it updates information for you and saves you time and effort. Some things that reliey on RSS are itunes, google reader, emails and podcasts.

I hope you now also know more about RSS... Until my next time i find something that saves you all time !!!!

Technorati- description

Readers,

I would like to tell you a little about technorati. I am still undecided on whether i like technorati or not at this point in time but i do know i do not like this friendly competition that jo has set up. I know my blog would never be able to compete with other out there in the real world. My only way of competing with them is by making up fake information and plastering all over my blog to gain interest. Then i realized people already do that such as fake news sites, and celebrity trash site... Anyways for those of you who are not technology savy (omg i can't believe i just said that as my best friends mum says that am i really that old?) Technorati it a search engine much like google but for blogs. It searches not only the RSS feed such as google but the HTML and links and has indexed over 112 million blogs. Technorati ranks blogs and gives them an authority which is a number (the higher the number the ore authority) of how many people with unique blogs have linked to yours in the last 180 days while a rank is decided on how far from the top you are #1 being the top rank.

Currently i have no authority and 2 fans (and thank you to those fans!!!) which means i need your help readers so come visit my technorati account and add me to your favorites. I am unable to get a add my blog to your technorati favorites on my blog but as soon as i find out please come on and add me. Although i do have a bet with tom going that i can get a lower ranking and authority then him. Do you think it would be worth anything? So now i must leave you so that you still have time to add me to your favorites...

Until next time

iweb our saviour

Your lucky this is a blog otherwise you would be infected with my flu germs by now...
Can i just say i absolutely love iweb. I just don't understand why people would spend hours dealing with the evil ways of CSS and HTML when they can use a cheat program like i web to help them out. Unfortunately i still am unable to get my iweb website onto my athene account which i don't quite understand why but eventually when i do it will be the ultimate program. I cannot wait to find other programs similar to this that i can use to create web pages in an instant. I also am a little unsure on how to create a range of pages using iweb but i think in practice this will come. Some things i would love to learn now is how to put a video on a web page or at least a link to you tube, how to put an animation on a web page and how to do these in the simpiliest way with out wasting time and spending hours doing it. If you have any ideas i would love to hear them my devoted readers... Anyways i have just come back from seeing the movie "There Will be Blood", which i am still totally confused to whether i like it or not and i am really sick so i look forward to infecting people, but unfortunately my tiredness is taking over my will to learn more, so i must leave you hear... Until next time...

FTP

FTP is very confusing to understand from my limited knowledge care of wikipedia. However from what i can desifer from this webpage is that FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is used to transfer data from one computer to another through a network ie the internet. Some of the negatives to using FTP include
  1. Passwords are not readily protected
  2. Because mutliple connections are used additional firewall protection is needed
  3. users are able to abuse the protocol and send data the a third computer.
  4. There is a time delay in transferring files
  5. If a file is interupted there is no way to know if the receiver has the whole file.
  6. There is no way for the FTP to set a time date stamp to tell people time last modified etc.
One major risk in using FTP is that there is no particularily safe way of transfering files because the data is not transfered in an encrypted fashion which means anyone on the same network can view your username, password, and FTP commands.
However i'm not going to be a negitive nancy so lets look for positive pete for some advantages of using FTP.
  1. FtP servers can be set up anywhere
  2. You are able to manipulae files no matter what  operating system you are using
All of this information was found using Wikipedia
I think in the future FTP will solve all its problems and be an extremely useful piece of technology
I hope this was insightful for you as it was for me love Brie xoxoxoxoxoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Assessment week

Readers, Writers and others who also hate using CSS...
This week we did our "assessment" , that didn't even end up being as "assessment" after all... Instead it was just all of us doing Damian's work for him by marking others peoples blogs. Now don't take me wrong i'm not complaining i would much rather do that then sit there and complete a boring written exam!!!! Some points i have made for the next "assessment" is to try and use all the functions in every site we go to. Some things i should have done that i didn't were, making favorites in flickr and putting extra links onto my del.icio.us account. However i think i've passed this first assessment... I think... Well until next assessment i'll just keep working.
Stay tuned...

Summary

Bloggers, readers and anyone who will take the time to begin to read this entry...
I just want you to know over the past few weeks i have learnt so many things in multimedia, things i have always wanted to know but never took the time to find out. I have written a total of 13 posts including, SYTYCD Need for sleep Original blogs ,My first blog Jack and CSS
I have used a number of tags including Brie, mpi104 and the subject of my blog such as "CSS". Extra items i have added are a greetings message and a quick profile.
Flickr is an online community in the form of a picture sharing web site allowing up to 200 images on a free account. I have 26 currently on my flickr account which is organized into 3 sets. My opinion of flickr is high because i think it is a valuable resource but there are many other websites such as facebook out there that contain the same functions and even more. Some of my favorite pictures include Bee in a box ,Kim's 18th The love child and Gelati but although these picture may not mean very much to others they mean a lot to me therefore i want to share them with others.
While Del.icio.us on the other hand is a website for saving and storing websites and uses folksonomy to organize pages. You can also download extensions to your web browsers to make it easy to add bookmarks. My first opinion of Del.icio.us was that it was useless why not just download bookmarks to your own computer? But then in practice when i realized that when i'm not at my own computer this is such a time saving website. Some of my favorite and most used websites include, EbayAustralian Ballet, and The forum. These are of interest to me because i use them constantly to buy things, look up movies and being a ballerina to find the latest from the Australian ballet. I currently have 24 web pages saved in my Del.icio.us account but i can see this drastically increasing in the near future.
However none of this is of great importance because the most important thing i have learnt so far in multimedia is to have patience because nothing is just going to appear or happen for you, you have to do it for yourself. But what i have learnt is that when all else fails you can turn to google because google is run on folksonomy and tags so no matter what you type in to the search engine you will recieve some information on that topic...
I hope to tell you about more things i have learnt and lessons i have learned until next time, stay devoted...

Google

Hey this is a blog i accidently deleted a few weeks ago but here it is for your viewing... enjoy

I am amazed that in all my years of using google there is still a whole world out there i never knew about. I mean the classic google images and google videos are always a great source of entertainment when avoiding doing work and a great source of inspiration... occasionally. Google blogs seems like a interesting place to be other then quite a few of the blogs are on topics neither useful or things i wanted to know. I have used google maps before and i think the greatest thing is that you can type in two locations and they will display directions from how to get from point a to point b other then this innovative technology tells you to turn right where there is NO RIGHT TURN. This makes it very difficult when you're in a place you've never been... I like google chat, gmail and google docs as these are useful easily assessable tools for everyday use. Finally i am so excited about google translate because this is a piece of technology i have always wanted to use but never had the imagination to find out. In conclusion i am happy with google but somethings could be improved for perfectionist like myself...

Jack Won

Jack won so you think you can dance. I couldn't believe it!!!! He really did deserve to win though. And for those of you who don't watch it you should!!! It shows some amazing dancers and amazing talent that makes Australia one of the most talented nations... Well relatively talented... Until next time
Brie xxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

SYTYCD

So much excitement is in the air...
Yes i am talking about the final of So You Think You Can Dance Australia and i'm afraid i am shamfully a diehard fan!!!! Even more unbeleiveable is that the one person i really wanted to win from the very first episode (JACK) has made it to the final four. I am very excited  about this but the downfall to this show ending is that big Brother is about to start. I can not even contemplate the thought of having that show still on TV and i don't think having new hosts is going to make some of those dreadful contestants any more bareable. I remember once that big brother got taken off air for technical difficulties and that moment was the happiest moment of my TV watching experience because it was one second less i had to watch or hear of this show.
However being a potential TV crew member i think it is TV shows like this that are stealing our potential employment!!!! But i obviously don't feel too strongly about this because honestly if Big Brother offered me a job with a nice pay package... I would take it... and before you start ripping on me for being a hippocrit i must point out being a poor uni student isn't as appealing as you might think!!!!
I am absolutely loving the montages SYTYCD is making and the slow motion shots are beautiful, you can really admire the crew of this show. Anyways i must leave you at this point waiting for the announcement to be decided.... I'm so nervous and i'm only watching it....

Need for Sleep

Dear Bloggers,

I suppose you're all wondering what i have been up to lately. Well i can tell you i haven't been getting a lot of sleep but i have no idea what i have been doing. I think i need to stop staying out late and start getting up early. In theory this could actually happen, i could actually get up but somehow i am physically incapable of doing this. However i'd like to blame alcohol it keeps me out late, makes my skin disgusting and lowers my intelligence all at the same time. Therefore at this point I'm going to say alcohol is the cause of my lack of sleep and i'd like to blame it for a couple of other things as well. So i'd like to do a bit of a social experiment for those of you who are reading does alcohol affect your sleeping patterns? Tell me as a comment on this blog and i will ask people so stay tuned for my next blog for the results. Can't wait to hear from you all...

Original blogs

Reader, Supporters and others who have got lost on the internet and come across my blog...

In writing this blog i can't help but wonder what was the original purpose of blogs, and then after some research, i discovered that blogs were originally used as bulletin board systems (BBS) and was used to post messages on a metaphorical cork board. However these messages were out of order making the newest posts at the bottom of the page which of much inconvenience, but after some tweaking people developed online blogging software. Since then blog became more like an online diary where people would express information about elements of their lives. I think some blogs are boring because some people's lives aren't as interesting as they may have perceived such as this blog but i suppose everyone view of blogs are different. Although I do think it is amazing that they have pinpointed the first blog down to one person swarthmore college. I hope one day i can write an interesting blog that people would read but until then it is just you and me my reader.... thankyou

CSS

It has been a while my devoted devoted readers,
Today we looked at css (custom style sheets) which is mainly used to style web pages written in HTML and can define colours, fonts and layouts. I think there
are many many advantages of using CSS because it saves a lot of time, it allows you to customize a range of pages rather then just one, it also allows
you to have creative control of every aspect of your pages. However CSS is not as easy to use as i thought it would be. All i wanted to achieve was to add a
pattern to the background of my blog. Although i knew how to change the colour of my background, placing a pattern there was an irritating task. However
after a lot of testing we came across a website  that can create the CSS code for you. After discovering this the job of customizing a blog was not as hard
as i had first thought.
When looking at a page that has no style the whole page becomes more like a big list and unformatted so you really realize how important layout and CSS
are. It also shows how important CSS is in being about to easily alter web pages.
One thing i have learnt is that even though you have the option and skill to do something doesn't mean it should be done. For example my blog is very
difficult to read when there is a complex pattern behind each of the words. So until next time i hope you all like what i have done with my blog...

Web Storers

My faithful faithful devoted readers...

DEL.ICIO.US is a very interesting resource. I played around with it today. At first i thought it was extraordinarily good because it saved me time in getting the places i needed to go such as the MPI104 website... However then i realised that it was not very user friendly because i could not figure out how to create a network and on attempting to use the help option i got even more confused. Even the very intelligent people around me could not work it out and if it wasn't for my unhumanly intelligent teacher i would have never found out. Therefore flickr is not all i thought it was gonna be. I also found out there are many other web storers such as This web storer   Or this    Or THIS .

I found these links in a matter of minutes just by searching google. in conclusion DEL.ICIO.US is interesting but not extraordinarily user friendly and not very unique.

Until next time my faithful reader i will leave you with these words... use DEL.ICIO.US but make someone explain it first.

From the awesomeness that is BRIE xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

This week is flickr

Dearest companions and readers of my awesome blog...

Today I played around with flickr which is used to store images on the internet. I thought this was a great idea because you can save images on the internet which means you will never lose them. I also liked that you could share with other people and have pools of similar pictures. Come visit my flickr account My flicker Account and join the flicker community. I'm sorry but google documents has decided to underline everything i say from here so i'm sorry but you'll have to bare with me. I also like the idea that i can share pictures with only my friends and family if i desire to because some (most...) of my photos are rather embarrassing but i can't help not being a very photogenic person. So in conclusion i believe flicker is an alright idea but

So my companions i must leave you now and yet again you must

hang off every word i say so i will leave you with this... emma

smells like cheese... Good cheese... but seriously guys go visit

my first blog

Hey Bloggers,
I have an issue i've been meaning to raise for a while. you see I am not as many people refer to as a coffee drinker. I believe the stuff taste a little funny like boiling water mixed with dirt. Ok some coffee related items such as coffee iced cream, coffee milkshakes, coffee chocolates are not that bad but straight coffee i just can't touch the stuff. Possibly it could be i have never had a good coffee and this is why i feel this way but i have had a moccha and it still tastes like dirt. So my question is what do people who don't drink coffee drink in cafes?? Water and hot chocolate get boring pretty quickly. Maybe someone should come up with a drink equally addictive that tastes a little better...
